Poker at Genting Casino Sheffield
Our poker room is inside the main casino at St Paul’s Place, Arundel Gate, Sheffield, S1 2PN. That is right in the middle of the city, so if you know Sheffield centre, you will probably recognise the spot straight away. We spread Texas Hold’em cash games every day of the week, which makes us one of the more reliably open live poker rooms in South Yorkshire. Not every venue in the region keeps tables running that consistently. PokerAtlas lists Genting Casino Sheffield with 1/2 No Limit Hold’em and a buy-in range of £100 to £1,000.
The usual game is £1/£2 blinds. You can sit down with a minimum of £100 and up to a maximum buy-in of £1,000. We take 5% rake from the pot, capped at £5 per hand. That cap comes into play more than most players think, especially once pots start building up above the average. Alongside Hold’em, we also run Pot Limit Omaha in the room, and there are higher-stakes tables on certain nights when demand is there.
Weekly Schedule
Below is the cash game schedule as it appears on third-party poker directories and listing sites. Times and formats can move a little, so giving us a call on +44 (0)114 228 8980 before you set off is genuinely a good habit.
| Day | Format | Start | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 2 x £1/£2 Texas Hold’em | 21:00 | Standard cash game |
| Tuesday | 2 x £1/£2 Texas Hold’em | 21:00 | Standard cash game |
| Wednesday | 3 x £1/£2 Texas Hold’em | 16:00 | Free rake until 20:00 |
| Wednesday | 1 x £2/£2 DC | 00:00 | Late night format |
| Thursday | 1 x £2/£5 Texas Hold’em | 20:00 | Complimentary meal before 22:00 |
| Thursday | 2 x £1/£2 Texas Hold’em | 23:00 | Additional tables |
| Friday | 2 x £1/£2 Texas Hold’em | 21:00 | Standard cash game |
| Friday | 1 x £1/£1 Texas Hold’em | 23:00 | Late night table |
| Saturday | 2 x £1/£2 Texas Hold’em | 21:00 | Standard cash game |
| Saturday | 1 x £1/£1 Texas Hold’em | 23:00 | Late night table |
| Sunday | 3 x £1/£2 Texas Hold’em | 20:00 | Three tables running |
Wednesday deserves to be mentioned on its own. The earlier session starts at 16:00 and runs with free rake until 20:00. If you plan on playing a few steady hours of £1/£2, that free rake window really changes the cost of your session. Thursday is where the regular higher-stakes action sits, with the £2/£5 Hold’em table. Players at that game who are in their seat before 22:00 get a complimentary meal, which is a useful extra for an evening session.
How to Join a Cash Game
You do not need to arrange any membership in advance to play. We have parking close to the venue, and if you drive into Sheffield centre at peak times, you will know that is more useful than it first sounds.
Getting into a game at the door is straightforward.
- Come to St Paul’s Place, Arundel Gate, S1 2PN. The casino opens daily, with live gaming on the floor from 12:00.
- Show a valid photo ID at reception for age verification, as all UK casinos are required to do.
- Walk through to the poker room and speak with the floor team so they can add you to the list or seat you.
- Confirm the amount you want to buy in for. Standard cash games have a minimum of £100 and a maximum of £1,000.
- Collect your chips at the table or cashier, then take your seat and join the action.
- When you are done playing, head to the cashier to cash out. Cash games are flexible, so you can leave whenever you decide to stand up.
If every seat is taken when you arrive, ask the floor staff to place your name on the waiting list. On the busier nights - especially Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday - we usually have more than one table running in the main games, which helps keep waiting times reasonable.
One general tip that helps a lot in practice: getting to the room 20 to 30 minutes before a listed start time is almost always better than walking in right on the dot. It gives you a moment to settle, chat with the floor, see who is already around and how many tables are likely to open.
